Logos[]
1st logo (1981-Mid 1980's)[]
We see a muscular, shirtless man hitting a silver vinyl record, labeled with the Virgin logo on it, as if it were a gong (like the Rank logo). It explodes, and as the pieces fly away, sparks appear and write the familiar "Virgin" logo, which is stylized for a moment before flashing to its normal corporate font. "FILMS and VIDEO", stacked, appear on the bottom right of "Virgin", and "presents" fades in underneath. All the text is in white.
Variant[]
Another variant exists only on older international prints of Electric Dreams. We see the man from before about to hit the record again, now in gold, but it shakes, and he runs away as an airplane comes crashing through it. We pan across the puzzled man as the airplane makes smoke trails that form the normal "Virgin" text, which flashes as the stacked text "FILMS PRESENTS" appears below it.
2nd logo (1982-1986)[]
Against a black background, the words "Virgin" (in blood red, and in the thinner variant of its script) zoom out from the top left of the screen with a residue-trailing effect and stop in the center of the screen, "flashing". The following text says "VIDEO", which isin a small plain red font, zooming out from the top left and stopping at the bottom right corner of the logo. It later fades out as a glowing "Presents" fades in.
Variant[]
- On one of the NOW Music releases, the Presents text isn't shown and the logo stays on-screen longer because of this.
- A variant for theatrical movies reads "FILMS" instead of "VIDEO". The colors are much darker in this version, so it makes it look more orange than red.
- Another theatrical variant reads, entirely in white, "Virgin FILMS PRESENT".
3rd logo (1986-1992)[]
Against a black background, a set of revolving tri-colored light beams (red, blue, and green) shoot out toward the screen and bounce back and forth three times in a backwards "Z" formation. As it hits the center, various circles wipe in to from the Virgin logo, glowing various colors as it rotates upward. A light grows under it and it fully turns into white circles forming the logo, while it fills with red. The light then engulfs the background, becoming blue, followed by white, then mostly blue.
4th logo (1997-Late 1990's)[]
On a black background, the Virgin logo fades in, then fades out. The entire logo is in white and there's no video indicator.
Music/Sounds[]
1st logo[]
Silence, or the opening theme of the movie.
2nd logo[]
A very deep, distorted electric guitar tune with heavy bass, composed by Mick Karn of the band Japan.
3rd logo[]
Chimes as the beams bounce around and a synth horn fanfare when the logo rises up, accompanied by a descending synth sound when "Virgin" fills red.
4th logo[]
None.
Scare Factor[]
1st logo[]
Minimal to low. The man hitting the gong may surprise some, especially the airplane variant, but it raises with the next logo...
2nd logo[]
- "VIDEO" variant: Depending on what you think about the logo, it can range from medium to nightmare. The darkness, blood red color scheme, horribly distorted music, and even some of the effects will get to people.
- "FILMS" variant: High to nightmare. The darker colors can be more unsettling, especially when viewed in a dark room.
3rd logo[]
Minimal to medium; this is tamer than before, but the sudden appearance of the beams might get to some.
4th logo[]
None. Unlike the previous logos, this one is boring.
