Logos[]

1st Logo (1989-2001)[]

Nicknames: Eric the Goldfish, "Maori to English"

On a black background, the text "Inirangi TE MOTU" is seen in white, all stacked up and separated by 3 waves, in red, blue, and green respectively. All of them move slightly and the bottom wave has the English translation "New Zealand On Air". The words then flip to their sides, with a slight delay between them, and leaves the screen blank for a bit before the English version flips in with a similar effect. Now the text reads "NZ ON AIR" with the waves adjusted to the new words and the Maori translation is seen on the green wave.

Variants[]

  • The logo would often have "With the help of your Broadcasting Fee" at the bottom of the screen.
  • The logo would sometimes turn to reveal the network's logo that the show was made by before or after.
  • An in-credit variation in the ending credits of Oscar and Friends occurs with the Broadcasting Fee info still appearing after the the logo turns over to the TV3 logo from this era.
  • Another variant exists where the text's animation takes place on the upper corner, and Eric the Goldfish (NZ on Air's advertising mascot during this logo's lifespan) appears wiping in the words "With the Help of your Broadcasting Fee." and also blows some bubbles while he does that position.

2nd Logo (2001-2010)[]

Nicknames: "The Ferns", "Maori to English II"

On a CGI shot of ferns with light pouring out of the gaps, the Maori NZ On Air logo can be seen rendered in CGI, this time in black and more defined waves. There is also a grey oblong with A tatou waiata, o matou kōrero, to tatou ano. below it as well. The camera then tilts a bit downwards as the ferns slowly rotate to the left, before the text flips over to the English version. A flash of sunlight in the background can also be seen and the camera settles as the Maori translates into English: "Our stories, our songs, our selves."

3rd Logo (2008-)[]

Nicknames: "Audio Waves", "The Hills and Valley", "English to Maori", "Maori to English III"

On a black background, cyan audio waves draw out as a few form a oblong shape. A few more multicolored ones start to emerge as a few more audio waves draw across the screen and the wave starts to draw in letters. The sun rises over silhouettedmountains and helps form up the rest of the new logo. It consists of 2 cut-off hill shapes, going from orange to blue, which form a valley below. "NZ On Air" can be seen in a large rounded font, with the Maori translation below in smaller print. The waves then eventually disappear and the logo shines a bit.

Variants[]

  • The logo usually appears on the black background (as described in the paragraph above).
  • Since 2021, the logo can also appear on a white background, the Maori text "Irirangi te Motu" appears in the same font as before one-by-one, sliding to the left as a blue/red gradient wave starts to form and shifts around. As this happens, a spew of green/navy blue gradient goo is form and rotates around the words, splitting off and briefly forming an rounded version of New Zealand, before "NZ On Air" starts flipping in one-by-one as well. While this happens, the hills-and-valley logo forms up beside it, only this time in a blue gradient color. It stays on screen for about a second before the letters flip and fade away, and the hills disappear.

FX/SFX[]

Music/sounds[]

1st Logo[]

Mainly, an announcer would be heard saying "(This) [SHOW/PROGRAMME/MOVIE] was ([a/an] produced/made by/at [PRODUCTION COMPANY NAME] production/studios [LOCATION]) made for [NETWORK NAME] with the help of your broadcasting fee, so you can see more of New Zealand on Air."

  • Example on TVOne/TV2: Regular animation until it turns over to the late-90's TVOne/TV2 logo/s with a TVOne/TV2 announcer narrating "This programme was made for TVOne/TV2 with the help of your broadcasting fee, so you can see more of New Zealand on Air."
  • Eric only: A variant exists with Eric the Goldfish (voiced by Peter Howley) narrating the credit.

Sometimes, in Maori, it is: Hanga tēnei hōtaka i ki te awhina o koutou Fee Broadcasting, kia taea e koe te kite atu, o Aotearoa I te rangi."

2nd Logo[]

A chime and guitar along with an announcer narrating that "(This [SHOW/PROGRAMME/MOVIE] was made with funding from New Zealand on Air. or Thank You/mihi, New Zealand On Air, for helping us make [SHOW NAME]". or in Maori, it is: "Hanga i tenei whakaaturanga i te pūtea i hou o Aotearoa I te rangi."

3rd Logo[]

Xylophone music as well as an announcer narrating "Supporting local content so you can see more of New Zealand on Air."

Scare Factor[]

1st Logo[]

Nightmare. An animated talking goldfish appears in advertisements promoitng NZOA's funding campaign and enlarges its creepy yellow eyes and human beings stare and laugh at the goldfish, when the man shouts "Eric the Paranoid Goldfish". These effects can be creepy, but it's just only an ad promoting for the help of your broadcasting fee.

Low. You can still see the logo.

2nd Logo[]

None.

3rd logo[]

Low. Audio waves may fade way quickly, however, you can still see the logo in this animation.
