It would actually be any of the following:

  • A test screen with the text "EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM" in a grey transparent box at the top.
  • A black screen with "NATIONAL ALERT", "Primary Entry Point System", "Issued an", "Emergency Action" and "Notification". The text "A Primary Entry Point System has issued an Emergency Action Notification for the following counties: District of Columbia DC. Effective Until 11/09/11 11:18:00 PST. Comcast." would slide under "EMEGENCY BROADCAST".
  • The Oklahoma Emergency Alert System from 1999 would show the news and shows a trapezoid that looks like V of Doom tilted. then a sound that sounds like it's saying WAKA WAKA WAKA WAKA. of course the announcer announces whats happening. then it stays in a black screen and starts making phone noises such as off dial or the cable from the phone is ripped, and the dial tone

Variants[]

  • Some of these screens are tests, which would also occasionally have the word "TEST" under it, sometimes blinking.
  • Sometimes you can get a grey screen.
  • If you have dish network and a Monthly test broadcasts, It'll say in the screen "Dish Network has initialed a monthly test of the National Emergency Alert System".
  • Not all Televisions show a black screen with headings, some are just a red line telling what happened and a white bar with the information

Music/Sounds[]

Several beeps, followed by an announcer

Music/Sounds Variants[]

  • In some Amber Alerts you may hear the THX deep note crossed with a tornado siren.
  • The 1999 Oklahoma EAS had a siren that repeated itself for 5 seconds, then an announcer. We then had silence before anther announcer came, followed by more silence. Then, several beeps played.

Scare Factor[]

  • Other screens: Depending on what you think of these screens, they can all range from low to nightmare. The beep(s), black background and announcer, followed by the messages can easily scare people.
  • Monthly tests: Medium to high. The beeps and black background are still present, but it's shorter (and somewhat tamer) than the others.
  • Amber Alerts variant: High to nightmare. The THX deep note and tornado Siren together will definitely unease a lot of people, especially if you expected the normal version.
  • 1999 Oklahoma Emergency Alert System: Nightmare or even off the scale. The siren and beeps are really unsettling, especially the beeping sounds after the silence.
