Background[]

Double Joint Films is a Scottish-American home video distributor, founded on October 24, 1989, as a sub-division for Comedy Central DVD, formerly known as Comedy Central Video. In 2003, after Paramount got full control of Comedy Central from Warner Bros., DJF had a hiatus for 1 month in 2004. But came back to producing DVDs, Blu-Rays, and VHS Tapes until 2007. They normally collaborate with SHOUT! Factory to release some episodes of the popular series, Mystery Science Theater 3000 on DVD and Blu-Ray In other countries. it is similar to The Double Fine Logo.

Logos[]

1st logo: (February 1, 1990-December 31, 1995, January 20, 2012-)[]

On a black background, we see a stick guy with four arms and legs, and has another stick guy on the left, jointed to him, hence the name of the company. Over them is the text, "double joint films" in bold arial narrow in red. There is a byline reading, "Great Horror Stuff from Paramount Video's Comedy Central Video", also in red, but in the normal arial narrow font.

2nd logo: (January 13, 1992-October 14, 2007)[]

On a dark blue background, the same jointed stick guys from the previous logo (but differently jointed together) are standing on a brown platform with a spotlight on them, revealing that the background is actually periwinkle. The stick guys have a yellow-colored face revealed (although that changed in 2004). The animation is just the stick guys walking straight to us, with the text on top.

3rd logo: (September 18, 1996?-November 3, 2004)[]

on a teal and yellow background, we see the text "DOUBLE" and "JOINT" on both sides, where Double is teal on the yellow background on the left, and Joint is opposite. It is yellow on the teal background, and on the right, with both text in Comic Sans, the word films in yellow, appears under Joint, also in Comic Sans. A byline that reads, "From Comedy Central Video, a label of Paramount Pictures" is on the bottom right corner in yellow, but in Garamond.

4th logo: (October 31, 1997-June 21, 2022)[]

We zoom in to a lab, where on a dark red background with a navy-blue floor, we see a gas tank, zoom by, we then see the jointed stick guys from previous logos (more from the second logo) looking worried. Above them is a white circle with a black swastika on it. They look around a little bit. The stick guy on the left sees a scalpel, a chainsaw, a knife, a needle of poison, a needle of liquid melatonin, a needle that explodes people when injected, a beaker of blood, a jar with Benito Mussolini's brain, a jar with an eyeball, and a briefcase of mind-control devices. The one on the right sees a slightly rusted surgeon table, with a blood ridden mattress and blanket. The pillow is not covered in blood. A scientist comes into the lab with a clipboard, and says to them, "Warner Bros. does not own you anymore, my friends". Then he injects the guys with the needle of liquid melatonin. After 5 seconds, we see them again, but this time, they have part of their face cut off. the one on the left is dead, has a scar on his head, and had a little bit of blood pouring out of his cheek. The most gruesome however, is the stick guy on the right. He is yelling in pain, as he has an ocean of blood coming out of his mouth, with a lot dripping onto the floor. in the middle of the screen, the text: DOUBLE and JOINT appears with the text "films" in the middle, in bold Garamond, with a byline that reads, "a comedy central DVD company" also in Garamond bold. Then it fades to red, and then cuts to black.

Variants[]

  • In 2015, Viacom sold DJF to CBS Corporation for $500,000,000 USD. So, the byline changed from "A Comedy Central DVD Company", to "A Division of CBS Corporation".
  • In 2019, Due to Viacom and CBS Corp merging, the byline now read "A ViacomCBS Company".
  • In Early 2022, ViacomCBS was renamed to Paramount. So once again, the byline had to change.

5th logo: (September 21, 2022-)[]

On a pastel green background, we see two stick figures popping up smoothly. Then, a cartoon set of hands picks up the stick figures, as they squirm around, trying to escape. Then, the hands throw them at each other, causing them to become the double jointed stick figure from the second logo. Then, its head gets chopped off by a finger nail of the hands, but they are still alive. Then the text "DOUBLE JOINT FILMS", in pink and in the font Comic Sans, slides in smoothly from the left. Then a byline that reads "A Paramount Company" in orange and in the Times New Roman font fades in. Then, it fades to black.

Music/Sounds[]

[]

None, or the opening theme to the film or show.

[]

A 3-note instrumental theme that consists of trumpets, which would later be the music for the 2000 Twin Cities PBS "Bowing TPT" logo.

[]

None.

[]

Toccata and Fugue in D Minor (ala Dracula theme?) plays throughout the logo, with the scientist speaking, and a chainsaw sound that plays for 5 seconds.

[]

It consists of a cheerful tune with cartoon bubble blowing, sparkles, and spring boings. Then, when the text slides, a xylophone going up is heard. Then a cartoon honk when it fades to black.

Scare Factor[]

Logo 1:[]

Minimal to high. The image may look freaky to some, but it's fine.

2nd logo :[]

None. The animation is nice, and the music is beautiful. It is also a favorite to many, due to its 15-year usage date.

3rd logo:[]

None. However, the next logo is the complete opposite...

4th logo[]

Nightmare. If you thought that AKA Cartoon (Boo Ha Ha Variant) is the goriest logo in existence, think again. The entire logo is just horrifying. From the blood and gore, to the tone and swastika. If some one had nausea from this it would be hepatic. If you were to eject the DVD, that is what you should do when this logo comes on.

5th logo[]

None. This logo is a cute one. The animation (made at Film Roman) is as smooth as butter, the music and sounds are nice, and overall, the stick figure is cuter in this logo. At least it is better than the last logo.

Trivia[]

  • When you draw the logo correctly, EVERYTHING should be straight. The head, the line, the eyes and the mouth. Also the background should be darkened
